Ampicillin

Structure

Ampicillin-250
Each capsule contains Ampicillin IP 250 mg

Ampicillin-500
Each capsule contains Ampicillin IP 500 mg

No Prescription and Dosage

Ampicillin is prescribed for:
General Dosage: Adults 250-500 mg 3-4 times/day. Higher doses up to 1 g 6 hourly may be given.
Upper and Lower Respiratory Tract Infections: Bronchitis, Lung Abscess,
Pneumonia etc.: General dosage.
Otitis media: Children: 125 mg t.i.d. to 750 mg b.i.d. for 3-10 days.
Sinusitis: general dosage.
Tonsillitis, Pharyngitis: General dosage. In the latter condition duration of treatment should be at least 10 days.
UTI: General dosage.
Uncomplicated Gonorrhoea: Single dose of 3 g
Skin and soft tissue Infections: General dosage.
Typhoid: General dosage, because of drug resistance not the first choice. Response may be slow.

Contraindications

Ampicillin is contraindicated if you have any of the following conditions:
- Hypersensitivity to penicillins;
- Infections due to penicillinase producing organisms;
