No Prescription

Apraclonidine is prescribed for short-term adjunctive therapy in patients on maximally tolerated medical therapy who require additional IOP reduction.
Apraclonidine DS is prescribed for control of intraocular pressure following anterior segment laser surgery.

Dosage

Apraclonidine

One to two drops of apraclonidine 0.5% should be instilled in the affected eye(s) three times daily.
Since apraclonidine 0.5% will be prescribed with other ocular glaucoma therapies, an approximate 5 minute interval between instillation of each medication should be practised to prevent washout of the previous dose.

Apraclonidine DS
One drop of apraclonidine should be instilled in the scheduled operative eye one hour before initiating anterior segment laser surgery and a second drop should be instilled to the same eye immediately upon completion of the laser surgical procedure.

Contraindications

Apraclonidine is contraindicated for patients receiving monoamine oxidase inhibitor therapy and for patients with hypersensitivity to any component of this medication or to clonidine.
