Atacand

Form.

Tablets: 4 milligrams,
Tablets: 8 milligrams,
Tablets: 16 milligrams,
Tablets: 32 milligrams.

No Prescription

Atacand is prescribed to treat high blood pressure where Atacand may be prescribed alone or in combination with other drugs. It has less of an effect in black patients, as do ACE inhibitors.

Atacand is prescribed for the treatment of patients with heart failure in whom it reduces the chances of death or hospitalization due to heart failure. Blockers appear to be approximately as effective as ACE inhibitors, and the effects of Atacand add to the effects of ACE inhibitors when they are prescribed together.
Atacand controls high blood pressure. It works by blocking the effect of a hormone called angiotensin II. Unopposed, this substance prompts the blood vessels to contract, an action that tends to raise blood pressure. Atacand relaxes and expands the blood vessels, allowing pressure to drop. The drug may be prescribed alone or with other blood pressure medications.

Dosage.

Atacand usually is taken once daily.
For ADULTS

Atacand can be taken once or twice a day in doses totaling 8 to 32 mg per day. However, the recommended starting dose is 16 mg taken once daily. If you are taking a diuretic (water pill) or if you have kidney or liver problems, your doctor will start you on a lower dose.
