Detrol

No Prescription

Detrol is prescribed to treat overactive bladder. Detrol reduces the amount of bathroom visits. Detrol may help to control wetting accidents.
Detrol works by preventing bladder contraction.
Detrol is prescribed to relieve urinary difficulties, including frequent urination and inability to control urination.
Detrol is in a class of drugs called antimuscarinics.

Contraindications

Detrol is contraindicated if you have any of the following conditions:
- Difficulty passing urine;
- Glaucoma;
- Intestinal obstruction;
- Irregular heartbeat or you have a family member with irregular heartbeat;
- Kidney disease;
- Liver disease;
- Myasthenia gravis;
- An unusual or allergic reaction to Detrol, other drugs, foods, dyes, or preservatives;
- Pregnant or trying to get pregnant;
- Breast-feeding;
- Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to Detrol or any other drugs.
- Tell your doctor and pharmacist what script and nonscript medications you are taking, especially clarithromycin (Biaxin), erythromycin (E-mycin, Ery-Tab, others), fluconazole (Diflucan), itraconazole (Sporanox), ketoconazole (Nizoral), medications for glaucoma, and vitamins.
- Tell your doctor if you have or have ever had kidney or liver disease, glaucoma, or an obstructive gastrointestinal disease, such as pyloric stenosis.

Interactions

Do not take Detrol with any of the following drugs:
- Clarithromycin;
- Cyclosporine;
- Erythromycin;
- Fluoxetine;
- Drugs for fungal infections, like fluconazole, itraconazole, ketoconazole or voriconazole;
- Vinblastine;

Side Effects

Detrol side effects that you should report to your health care professional or doctor as soon as possible:
- Allergic reactions like skin rash, itching or hives, swelling of the face, lips, or tongue;
- Confusion;
- Difficulty passing urine;
- Fast, irregular heartbeat;
- Hallucinations;
- Swelling in feet, hands;
- Changes in vision;
- Constipation;
- Dry eyes, mouth;
- Headache;
- Dizziness, drowsiness;
- Stomach upset;
- Dry mouth;
- Blurred vision;
- Upset stomach;
- Headache;
- Constipation;
- Dry eyes;
- Dizziness;
- Difficulty urinating;
- Rash;
- Chest pain;

Dosage

ADULTS

Detrol

The usual starting dosage is 2 mg twice a day. Your doctor may decrease the dose to 1 mg twice a day if the higher dose causes problems. The 1-mg dose is also recommended if you have liver problems or must take any of the drugs listed in the "Possible food and drug interactions" section above.

Detrol LA

The usual starting dosage is 4 mg taken once a day. Your doctor may cut the dose in half if it causes problems. A dose of 2 mg once daily is recommended for people with liver problems and those taking drugs that might interact.
