Ipratropium is prescribed for:
For the treatment of chronic reversible airways obstruction, particularly in chronic bronchitis.
There is evidence that the concurrent administration of Ipratropium and sympathomimetic drugs produces a greater relief of bronchospasm than either agent given alone.
Ipratropium Inhaler/Rotacaps has been shown to produce effective bronchodilation in patients receiving beta-adrenergic blocking agents.
Ipratropium Inhaler may be prescribed with a Cipla Spacer/Zerostat Spacer device in patients who find it difficult to synchronise aerosol actuation with inspiration of breath.

Dosage

Ipratropium Inhaler
Adults: One or two inhalations three or four times daily.
Some patients may need up to four inhalations at a time to obtain maximum benefit during early treatment.

Children (6-12 years):
Usually one or two inhalations thrice daily.

Children (under 6 years):
Usually one inhalation thrice daily.

Ipratropium Rotacaps
Ipratropium Rotacaps should only be prescribed for inhalation through the Cipla Rotahaler.
Adults and children over 12 years: 1 or 2 Rotacaps three or four times daily.
Children under 12 years: Not recommended.

Adults
One to four inhalations three or four times daily. Some patients may need up to four inhalations at a time to obtain maximum benefit during early treatment.
Children (6-12 years)
Usually one or two inhalations thrice daily.
Children (under 6 years)
Usually one inhalation thrice daily.

Ipratropium Respirator Solution
The dosage should be adapted to the individual requirements of the patient.
Patients should also be kept under medical supervision during treatment.
The recommended dose is to be diluted with physiological saline to a final volume of 3-4 ml and nebulised and inhaled until the solution is consumed.

Ipratropium Respules
Ipratropium Respules are to be prescribed with a nebuliser.
The solution should not be injected or administered orally.
Adults (including the elderly and adolescents over 14 years of age) 0.4 ml 2 ml (100 ?g 500 g) up to four times daily.

Children (3 14 years)
0.4 ml 2 ml (100 g 500 g) up to three times daily.
The dose may be repeated after intervals of at least 2 hours, if required.
Daily doses exceeding 2 should be given under medical supervision.

Contraindications

Ipratropium is contraindicated if you have any of the following conditions:
- Hypersensitivity to atropine or its derivatives.
