Piroxicam IM 1 ml Injection
Each 1 ml ampoule contains Piroxicam USP 20 , Benzyl Alcohol IP 20 mg, Alcohol IP 13.34% v/v, (Absolute Alcohol content 12.68% v/v) in sterile water for injection IP q.s.

Piroxicam IM 2 ml Injection
Each ml contains Piroxicam USP 20 , Benzyl Alcohol IP 20 mg, Alcohol IP 13.34% v/v, (Absolute Alcohol content 12.68% v/v) in sterile water for injection IP q.s.

No Prescription

Piroxicam is prescribed for:
- Bursitis;
- Osteoarthritis;
- Periarthritis;
- Posttraumatic or acute musculoskeletal disorders including tendinitis;
- Rheumatoid arthritis;
- Sprains;
- Strains and low back pain;
- Tenosynovitis;

Piroxicam 10/20 Capsules
Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis and acute gout.

Piroxicam DT
Immediate relief from acute musculoskeletal pain, low backache, dysmenorrhoea and acute dental pain.
Piroxicam DT is also prescribed for juvenile chronic arthritis (JCA).

Piroxicam IM Injection
Initial treatment of acute conditions, (musculoskeletal disorders, acute gout) pain after operative intervention, acute exacerbations of chronic conditions.

Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, posttraumatic or acute musculoskeletal disorders including tendinitis, tenosynovitis, bursitis, periarthritis, sprains, strains and low back pain.

Dosage

3 cm (approximately 1.25") of Piroxicam Gel should be applied topically to the affected site three or four times daily.
The gel should be rubbed in, leaving no residual material on the skin.
No occlusive dressing should be employed.

Piroxicam 10/20 Capsules

Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, JCA, ankylosing spondylitis
Starting dose of 20 followed by maintenance therapy 10-30 mg daily.

Acute gout
Initial dose of 40 followed by 40 mg in divided doses for 3 to 4 days.

Acute musculoskeletal disorders
Initial dose of 40 for 3 to 4 days followed by 20 mg daily for 7-14 day treatment period.

Piroxicam DT: 20 as a single dose.
In JCA:

Piroxicam IM
Piroxicam IM is administered exclusively by intramuscular route as an initial symptomatic treatment in acute crisis and when oral route cannot be used.

Norms for its correct administration:
The intramuscular injection of Piroxicam IM must be carried out by using aseptic technique in a large voluminous muscle.
The point for selecting the injection spot is the quadrant which is upper extreme of the buttock (gluteus major).
As in the case of any other intramuscular injection, it is necessary to have a prior aspiration in order to avoid accidental injection into a blood vessel.

Inflammatory rheumatisms
20 as one single injection in one day.

Extra-articular rheumatisms and acute post-traumatic or post operative conditions of the musculoskeletal system and primary dysmenorrhoea:
40 in one single injection for the first two days to be continued with 20 mg injections daily till pain subsides.

Microcrystalline arthritis (acute gout): 40 as one single injection.
Piroxicam IM is not prescribed for a prolonged treatment of gout.

Contraindications

Piroxicam is contraindicated if you have any of the following conditions:
- Active peptic ulceration;
- Angioedema or urticaria induced by aspirin or other nsaids;
- Hepatic dysfunction;
- Previous known hypersensitivity to Piroxicamicam and in patients with a history of asthma;
- Rhinitis;
