Theophylline

Structure

Theophylline 200 Tablets
Each sustained release tablet contains Theophylline (anhydrous) IP 200 mg.

Theophylline 300 Tablets
Each sustained release tablet contains Theophylline (anhydrous) IP 300 mg.

Theoday 400 Tablets
Each sustained release tablets contains 400 mg of sustained release anhydrous theophylline (IP) 400 mg IP.

Theoped Syrup
Each 10 ml contains Theophylline (anhydrous) IP 100 mg.

No Prescription

Theophylline/Theoday/Theoped is prescribed for symptomatic relief and/or prevention of bronchospasm associated with asthma, chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

Dosage

Theophylline 200/300 Tablets
Theophylline tablets should be swallowed whole. It should not be crushed or chewed.

Adults
The average starting dose for adults is 16 mg/kg or 400 mg (whichever is less) in two divided doses and then gradually increased up to 800 mg per day to obtain maximum benefit.

Theoday 400 Tablets
Theoday 400 Tablets should not be chewed or crushed. The scored tablet may be split.

Adults
Theoday 400 tablets can be taken in a dose of one tablet once a day in the morning or evening.

Theoped
Theoped may be administered as one teaspoonful three to four times a day, or the dosage, may be calculated as 19-24 mg/kg body weight per day, administered in divided doses.

Contraindications

Theophylline is contraindicated if you have any of the following conditions:
- Hypersensitivity to xanthine derivatives.
- It is also contraindicated in patients with active peptic ulcers disease and in individuals with underlying seizure disorders (unless receiving appropriate anti-convulsant medication).
