Trimipramine

Trimipramine is prescribed for the treatment of depression and depression accompanied by anxiety, agitation or sleep disturbance.
Trimipramine is prescribed to treat depression, especially when there is also difficulty sleeping.
Trimipramine works by preventing chemicals called serotonin and noradrenaline from being reabsorbed back into the nerve cells in the brain.

Contraindications

Trimipramine is contraindicated if you have any of the following conditions:
- If you are pregnant, trying for a baby or breast-feeding;
- If you are taking other medicines, including those available to buy without a script, herbal or complementary medicines This is especially important if you have taken a treatment for depression, known as a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), recently;
- If you have epilepsy;
- If you have ever had an allergic reaction to this or any other medicine;
- If you have experienced difficulty passing water, or had prostate trouble;
- If you have glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye);
- If you have liver problems;
- If you have phaeochromocytoma (a growth on the adrenal glands);
- If you have recently suffered a heart attack, or have experienced any other heart trouble;
- If you suffer from mood swings or any mental health problems;
- If you suffer from porphyria (a blood disorder);
- If you take medication for thyroid problems;

Side Effects

Trimipramine side effects that you should report to your health care professional or doctor as soon as possible:
- Anxiety;
- Blurred vision;
- Confusion;
- Constipation;
- Difficulty passing water;
- Difficulty sleeping;
- Drowsiness;
- Dry mouth;
- Fast and fluttery heartbeat;
- Light-headedness or dizziness;
- Particularly when standing up;

Overdose

Reported Trimipramine overdose symptoms are:
- Vomiting;
- Stupor;
- Severely low blood pressure;
- Overactive reflexes;
- Muscle rigidity;
- Low body temperature;
- Irregular heart rate;
- High fever;
- Hallucinations;
- Drowsiness;
- Disturbed concentration;
- Dilated pupils;
- Convulsions;
- Confusion;
- Coma;
- Agitation;
