Zolpidem

No Prescription

Zolpidem is chemically different from other common sleep medications such as Halcion and Dalmane.
Zolpidem is prescribed for short-term treatment of insomnia

Interactions

Do not take Zolpidem with any of the following drugs:
- Drugs That depress the central nervous system, including Valium, Percocet, and Benadryl;
- Serotonin-boosting antidepressants such as Paxil, Prozac, and Zoloft;
- The Antidepressant drug, imipramine (Tofranil);
- The Major tranquilizer, chlorpromazine (Thorazine);

- Amnesia;
- Anxiety;

- Decreased mental alertness;

Reported Zolpidem overdose symptoms are:
- Even go into a light coma;
- Excessively sleepy;

Dosage

CHILDREN
Safety and effectiveness have not been established in children below the age of 18.

ADULTS
The recommended dosage for adults is 10 milligrams right before bedtime. Your doctor will prescribe a smaller dose if you are likely to be sensitive to the drug or have a liver problem. Never take more than 10 milligrams of Zolpidem per day.

OLDER ADULTS
Because older people and those in a weakened condition may be more sensitive to Zolpidem's effects, the recommended starting dosage is 5 milligrams just before bedtime.
